How We Got Here

1960

The Meck family begins operating a stand at Lancaster Central Market, then known as "Widders" after Irwin and Ruth Widders. Five generations of farming heritage come together in Lancaster County.

1990

Bob Meck, son-in-law of the Widders, takes over the family market stand and begins expanding their presence at Lancaster Central Market.

2002

Bob, along with wife Rose and sons Ryan & Rob, form a partnership called Meck's Produce. The same year, the family purchases the farm on Beaver Valley Pike (Rt. 222), between Strasburg and Quarryville.

2015

Meck's Produce proudly opens its own year-round Farm Market in Strasburg, PA — now offering produce, baked goods, dairy, grass-fed beef, deli, and so much more.

Today

Meck's Produce continues to grow, serving families across Lancaster County with the finest local produce, celebrating their farm as the 1,000th preserved farm in the county.

On the Farm

How we grow — sustainable, chemical-free, and committed to the land for future generations.

Good Stewards of the Land

We believe that we need to be good stewards of the land that God has blessed us with in Lancaster County — which has some of the richest, most fertile soil in the world!

With this in mind we have adopted several practices to help ensure the sustainability of our farm along with conserving this rich soil for future generations.

We prohibit the use of harmful chemical pesticides to comply with sustainable agriculture because it is our goal to give you the best product we can grow.

Sustainable farming

How We Farm

🚜
No-Till Farming

We employ no-till farming methods to preserve soil structure and reduce erosion, keeping the rich Lancaster County soil healthy for future generations.

🌾
Cover Cropping

Cover crops protect and enrich our soil between growing seasons, reducing weeds, preventing erosion, and improving soil fertility naturally.

📐
Field Contouring

We use field contouring techniques to conserve soil, control water runoff, and protect the integrity of our 60 acres of farmland.

🐛
Integrated Pest Management

Our IPM approach helps manage insect pests, plant diseases, and weeds with minimal environmental impact — no harmful chemical pesticides.

♻️
Biodegradable Mulch

We've converted to biodegradable plastic mulch to significantly reduce the waste produced on our farm — a meaningful step for our environment.

💧
Hydroponic Greenhouse

Our state-of-the-art hydroponic greenhouse produces "living lettuces" year-round in a completely chemical-free environment with less water waste.

What "Local" and "Fresh" Mean to Us

🌿 When We Say "Local"

We have obtained these items from someone we know has produced that product themselves in the Lancaster County or surrounding area. We know our neighbors and our farmers.

✨ When We Say "Fresh"

It means we provide only those products of the highest quality that are as fresh as they can possibly be from suppliers we know and trust. No compromises.
